Acting

"All the world's a stage"
Here's to acting on it!
Vision plotting paradigms
In imagination sublime
Dreams shattering reality
Tending hypocrisy and flattery.

We but players on that stage
Existing as the fodder for
Some other's well rehearsed display
Of what it is they'd have us say
Or neatly falling in that trap
And stealing their compass for our map.

Each his own make up applying
Dressing, strutting, dialogue inventing
Following rules of interaction
Frozen out or with reaction
Commanding audience or isolation
Risking perception of motivation.

Convincing with conviction tending needs
Perceived, perhaps too easily believed,
And by example a following grows
That needs to know what isn't known
But happier to have another think so
Who says so and makes a good show.

What motivates this writing session?
The confusion of ambition and obsession,
Bred of lost direction and inaction
A mistrust of motivation and conviction
King Lear, Hamlet, Othello, Job and Faust
Conspiring to deny the world another Christ.

So on the journey of discovery.
What makes our species such a mockery
That Gods and muses without foppery
Can play us to distraction in our philosophy
