FOR MICHELLE,
MY DAUGHTER, ON HER BIRTHDAY

Some make their money from food and the eating
Others from the homes and places we sleep in
Some from the fun that goes with the drinking
Others from the leftovers and doing all the thinking

Beggars and scholars are two sides of perception
One with his hand out, the other pours his mind out
Priests, scribes and lawyers are close to the temple
Living off the laws they make driving us mental

In this day and age there is so much to choose from
And thousands of choices of what shoes to put on
We can give all our lives to save time and trouble
To find when we get there the challenge is double

One has to wonder whose plan we are under
And why we succumb to creating their plunder
Let's all rediscover what it means "love thy neighbour"?
And make it our mission to help mother nature.
