Freedom from Employment

Freedom from Employment
.
from the fickleness of fashion
from the indulgence of consumption
from the clutch of competition
from the world of expectation

The benefit of the "benefit"
Can be huge can we but see it
Be it unshackling the unfortunate
Or encouraging would be poet

And for "benefit" be it read
It is the cream that can be fed
To those who may stay in bed
By choice; not wis'hing to be led.

It is a pittance, as they know it
In bars we must not blow it
No fancy gyms nor cars nor things
But hell! Are these misgivings?

Ten dollars buys the pads and pencils
Deep thoughts attend these long epistles
Neatly scribed for artistry
My chosen life is email free.

Sleeplessness; whate'er the reason
(Passions, dreams, or simply season)
No anxiousness and not alarming
Allows for writing sessions charming.

Birds twittering as the day is dawning
Invite me join them, maybe yawning
Car free roads; my Domain is beckoning
Sprint, run, walk, elevation changing.

Clarity of air and breathing
Pumping heart and thoughts endearing
Unselfish love is my learning
Shared with the sparrow and the starling.

Chill the breeze that nips this morning
Cloudless sky and water rippling
Men up masts adjusting rigging
"Oracle" has music pumping.

"Mascalzone" leads out "Areva"
See ducklings in Prada' Flotilla "Victory" has just slipped by
Two "One World's? you gotta try

Another "Victory" in procession
"Alinghi's" loyalty indiscretion
"Team Dennis Connor" yet to show up
24th October the Louis Vuiton Cup

This is magic without makeup
Weather inflatables' hair all shook up
(Katana's goddess on the treadmill
Obscured glances add to the thrill)

"Stars and Stripes? twins in trouble
A fog horn blows my blissful bubble!
Stealthy silver ferns are passing
Our pride and glory awe inspiring

"Katana" fires, stern wake churning
Hawsers slipped and sideways stealing
Inside treadmill goes on turning
Base data gathers all departing.

Belatedly my thumb goes out
To hitch that ride and talk about
Thirty years of high sea striving
Vision and debt go duck and diving.

10 o'clock has come and gone
The Basin sings its own sweet song
There's life in living off the "benefit"
Barely enough is good for the misfit.
