Semantics - the meaning of words.

Off the top of my head, I've done a short list below of the words which "crop up" often in my thinking - I'll leave them "uncut" and go to the dictionary and see what it says.

Instinct - how the body has been programmed to react to stimulae.

Volition - the choice taken to act on options the mind and body is presented with.

Intuition - what we accumulate as sub-conscious filters for action choices.

Reason - the process of choosing and applying rules to rationalise a situation of choice.

Inculcation - what we allow others to persuade us are the critria for choice.

Compulsion - the choice of an action is dictated

What are their colloquial equivalents? Is there a generic for the set?

I have resolved to exercise great moderation for the next few weeks, and to earn whatever it is I'd like to drink, except perhaps a bottle off the shelf, and accompanied by some fine morsels of food, and perhaps consumed is relative comfort, though I would enjoy some sun on a beach, or in a park, or in the bush, or on a couch if the sun ain't out, or even in bed with a book to read, and a teddy... > Read more

Waste Not Want Not

A job begun is half done, a stitch in time saves nine, Charity begins at home and this light-of-foot is on the run. Love - what we know

Love life - we have it, no? Your choice. Love nature - live with her, no? What is it you have which is better? Love yourself? What is in you would deserve this? Who knows? You do. Love is not: "What can it do for me?" A deal disguised as a gift. Love is, perhaps, unselfish... > Read more

Long weekend reading
